The Wesley Lockyer Foundation was established in memory of Wesley Lockyer, a young Aboriginal man who went missing from a remote community in Western Australia's Pilbara region in October 2022. His family searched for answers across vast, unforgiving country — often feeling unseen and unsupported.
Wesley's story drove the foundation's beginning, but its mission is universal. Every year, people from all walks of life go missing across WA's remote north — tourists, station workers, travellers, and long-time locals alike. This foundation exists so that no family, whoever they are, faces that search alone, and so that the work of finding their loved ones is pursued with the persistence and respect they deserve.
To ensure that every family of a missing person in remote Western Australia receives proactive, persistent, and culturally safe support — for as long as it takes.
We will not turn anyone away. We will not give up when searches scale back. And we will always put families first.
A short history, a long commitment.
Wesley's disappearance
Wesley Lockyer, a young Aboriginal man, goes missing from a remote Pilbara community. His family searches across vast country — and finds the gaps in support that no family should face alone.
Police file the case
WA Police formally file the missing person case. Wesley's family and community begin pushing for answers, holding authorities to account, and demanding the same urgency afforded to any family in crisis.
Public rallies & Parliament
Communities rally in Port Hedland, Broome, Roebourne, Perth, and at Parliament House in the ACT. Petitions demanding action are tabled in the WA Parliament — the call for change becomes impossible to ignore.
Meetings with WA Police
The family meets directly with WA Police leadership to demand accountability and systemic change. The petition is tabled again in Parliament. Behind the scenes, the building of a formal support network begins — connecting families, volunteers, and regional partners across the state.
The foundation forms
The Wesley Lockyer Foundation is formally established — transforming years of advocacy into a permanent, operational force. Committed to action, not words, the foundation mobilises coordinators, logistics, and trauma support from day one so that no family ever searches alone again.

Our origin is in the disappearances of young Aboriginal men, but our mission is universal. We extend the same diligence, persistence, and respect to every family we support — regardless of background.
Proactive, not passive
We reach into remote communities before crisis, build trust, and mobilise the moment someone is reported missing. We do not wait for families to find us.
Culturally grounded & inclusive
Respect for Country, elders, and community protocols guides every search. We engage elders first and honour men's and women's business — while welcoming families of every culture and circumstance.
Persistent beyond official searches
We work alongside police and emergency services, but we do not stop when official searches scale back. We keep families supported for as long as it takes — including after a loved one is found.
Rooted in remote WA
Western Australia's vast distances, extreme heat, and sparse populations shape everything we do. Our coordinators, volunteers, and partners live and work in the regions we serve.
Free, always
Every service we provide to families — coordination, logistics, liaison, and counselling — is and will remain free of charge, sustained by donors and partners who believe no family should search alone.
Our work is far from finished.
People will continue to go missing across remote Western Australia. Our role is to be ready — with trained coordinators, vetted volunteers, and a partner network that spans the state — so that when the call comes, no family is left to search alone.
